On My Nightstand

In my pre-baby days, I was always reading a book and typically I’d have 2-3 books going at the same time.

Now, I’m lucky if I read one book a month. In actuality, I read about one book per quarter. How sad is that?

Lately, I’ve been making more of an effort to read more. This is what I’ve currently got on my “nightstand” and I’ve got another two books lined up that I’d like to finish before the end of this year (once I finish these two, of course).

What are you currently reading?

Pumpkin Patch

P’s family came to visit a couple of weeks ago. While they were here, we took Monster on his first visit to a pumpkin patch. As expected, he loved  it! We took a hay ride to the pumpkin patch, which might very well have been Monster’s favorite part of the trip since a large tractor pulled us up the hill (Monster’s a wee bit obsessed with tractors, mowers, etc. right now).

This one is a little too heavy…

Getting closer…

Almost found it…

Found it! (Yes, Monster choose a GREEN pumpkin!)

A little more pumpkin fun!

He had a great time with his grandma, aunt, and uncle. Can’t wait to do it all again next year! 🙂

19 Months!

Photo bomb! To be cropped…my computer just wouldn’t let me crop it today! Eek!

I don’t know what it is about fall, but the Monster household has been busy lately! So busy, that I missed posting an 18 month update – eek!

To play a bit of catch-up – Monster’s vital stats (at 18 months) were:  Height: 33.5”; Weight: 23.5 lbs. I’m amazed at how much his weight gain really slowed once Monster started walking. It really shouldn’t surprise me though, considering that Monster is very much a “go, go, go” kind of toddler! 🙂

We think Monster is getting his 2 year molars. Sleep the past few weeks has been pretty poor and Monster has been sucking on his fingers more than usual. I haven’t noticed any molars breaking through the gum yet, but if his first set of molars were any indication, we’ve got another month of sleepless nights ahead of us. But, then we’ll be done with teething for a while, so I kind of hope he is getting his 2 year molars now.

Monster’s vocabulary is growing bigger every day. He tries to repeat everything we say – it’s too cute! He’s regularly saying two-word sentences now and occasionally he says three word sentences too (such as “Dada car vroom.” Most words are still abbreviated to one syllable – we’re working on saying the second syllable!

Monster is learning his shapes now and can pretty accurately name all the basic ones (circle, square, star, and triangle). We’ve also started learning letters, since Monster has shown an interest in them, but we’re only “teaching” them to him when he asks about them. So far he seems to recognize the letters “S”, “T” and “I”.

Monster is still nursing and he still prefers mama’s milk to cow’s milk. Consequently, he’s still not sleeping through the night. I’m sure we’ll get there eventually, but I think it will literally be years!

Curious George is still Monster’s favorite book/TV show. He loves to imitate what George does – and so far refuses to say “yes” – instead he says “uh-huh” just like George says.  *Sigh*

Vacuuming is still a favorite activity, as is helping Daddy and Mommy cook. Monster also really enjoys raking leaves and digging. He really likes digging. The more covered in dirt he is, the happier Monster becomes. Really he likes to “help” us with all the household chores. We’re trying to encourage this as much as possible with the hopes that he’ll still enjoy it when he’s older (I know this isn’t realistic, but a mom can dream – can’t she?).

Toddlerhood is so much fun! Each new day is filled with adventure and new discoveries. It’s so much fun watching our little Monster grow and learn – we are truly blessed!

Love you, little Monster-man! Happy 19 Month birthday!

The Difference A Year Makes

Last fall, Monster loved to get tucked into P’s jacket and go outside. He would happily sit in P’s jacket for over a half an hour (as long as he was outside).

Snug as a bug

This year…not so much! He was squirming so much this was the only clear picture I took.

Get me outta here!

Ah, mobility! It certainly changes things! 🙂

Monster has been showing more and more independence lately. A couple of weeks ago, Monster started refusing help going down the slide. When P or I would try to help, he’d say “No! Swing, Mama. Swing, Dada.” and point to the swings next to the slide. Because he’s ridiculous, he actually wouldn’t move a step farther until we had sat down on the swings (bossy, much?).

Up the stairs….

…and down the slide!

Now he climbs up and slides down all by himself.  My little man is growing up!
